What The Video Game Systems Have Contributed To Our Lives

Posted on 20 December 2009 by Migs Lambert

Yesterday’s forms of entertainment were found in watching television, listening to the radio or watching DVDs. The generation of today demands more than just watching or listening. What they want is a more interactive form of entertainment, which is now made possible through video game systems.

If you are an 80′s baby, then you’ll probably be familiar with how to play Super Nintendo. Crash Bandicoot, Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers. These are just some of the more familiar games that you played with your Nintendo during your younger years. While today’s youth are already fond of their PSP, X-Box Gaming Console and Nintendo Wii.

What really makes the video game systems of today more special in comparison to what we have had in the past? Well, the best answer to give is the interactivity. During earlier times, the joystick was probably the only medium through which we play games and interact with another player, or with the virtual world that we see through the screen. Today, playing video game systems has become more complicated, providing more that just the monitor and a joystick that we have grown up with. Today, there are other mediums and accessories introduced depending on which video game console you prefer. Most of them require the player to not just use his fingers on the joystick. Some video games require the movement of arms and legs in order to play the game properly.

The main advantage of this is that the player is required to move additional muscles and is not just seated the whole day. This is primarily because he is obliged to do various movements with different parts of his body for the sake of playing the video game the proper way. Say the Nintendo Wii for example, it offers various games that allow physical activities while playing them. That way, not only is the player enjoying the game, he is also able to perform some simple exercises while playing.

The fact that video game systems of today have been made more interactive makes them more attractive than ever to kids. Kids as young as 4 years old already know how to play video games. Graphics wise, these video game systems are incredible in that they are able to portray the characters as if they are real. More and more audiences from different generations have become more interested in playing. They use them as part of their entertainment, playing with their friends or playing while bonding with children.

Most of these video game systems are very easy to use. For parents who have kids that are fond on playing those gaming consoles, make sure that you are able to supervise when they play certain games as they may not be suitable for their young age. Some games may introduce violence and this may affect your kid’s life as he grows up. Of course, these games do not intend to do harm to its audience, but just bring total entertainment for the whole family. Make sure that your kids are getting just enough play that they need to get. It’s much better to let them play video games that are appropriate for their understanding and age.
