Wonderful Wii!

Posted on 03 February 2010 by Anna Cross

The Nintendo Wii has had its up and downs. Whether it was offering games that previously were dull and boring and turning them into fun and exciting new installments, or their infamous sensor remote controls crashing through a gamer’s television, the Nintendo Wii has come a long way.

If you have not experienced the Wii’s gaming capabilities, you’re truly missing out. There are several types of games, from good ole Mario Kart to Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi three, to more revolutionary games like Wii Sports.

Pros: It gets you up and moving. Most of the Nintendo Wii’s games are very interactive games. You can run, you can jump, you can trip and fall on your face or, if you get tired, you can easily sit down to a less contemporary game and just relax. The games, albeit harder to find than say Playstation 2, have fairly decent graphics and gameplay.

For many games, different controllers are required. However, that doesn’t mean you need to dish out another 40 bucks for a new controller. There are’holders’ of kinds which hold your primary Wii remote and simply play. Many of these holders also come with the game in which they’re supposed to be played with. I recently saw one for Link’s adventure that came with a cross-bow holder.

The main “down” about the Wii is it’s controllers. The controllers require chargers. After paying about 250 dollars for the system, you may be a bit unnerved about buying a forty dollar controller. However, there are alternatives, such as buying rechargable batteries. Space could be a problem as well. You wouldn’t want to play the Wii during a party where the house is packed to the brim with people, for example. Lastly is the issue of the remote’s wriststrap. There have been many instances in which the remote has gone flying.

Pros and cons aside, the Wii is definitely a worthwhile investment, and is fun for all ages. Old folks, young children, teens, anyone can play the Wii. (This is proved by my 70-year-old grandfather who in all honesty plays the Wii more than his younger grandchildren for whom he bought the Wii for. His particular favorite are Wii Bowling and Golf.)

Finally, you gotta be pondering just how many games there are. According to several site, it’s quite close to 450. This is quite an exponential growth considering it started with 21 in 2006.

That said, go check out the Worthwhile Wii!
