Benefits Regarding Renting Video Games Online

Posted on 13 February 2010 by Jay Cooper

Renting video games was never something I considered. If I wanted to play a game, I bought it. I’ve been renting movies online for years, but for some reason I never tried renting games online. The price for video games just keeps getting higher and higher, making it difficult to keep buying every game I want to try. I also noticed that I have a large collection of games, many that I have never completed, or worse, never even played. Paying up to sixty dollars a piece for these games seems like such a waste.

It is just a lot more cost effective to subscribe to a game rental service than it is to buy video games. I gave several services a try to see how they work. I probably should have tried this before since there are many advantages to renting games online.

I like the fact that I can play any game I want to see if it is a good game or a bad game. This is nice because there are so many games to chose from and some of them are just not that great. This way I don’t have to waste money on a game that I end up hating. If I like it, I can always buy it later. I’ll be saving quite a bit of money by doing this.

Are you are one of those players that complete games in just a day or two, never to play it again? Think of how much money you can save by not having to buy all those games. You could easily go through several games each month for about $16 with a game rental subscription, which could save you a couple hundred dollars or more. Just renting one game a month is a lot less expensive than it would be to purchase that game.

Game selection is another big advantage with online video game rental companies. GameFly has over 6,000 titles available to rent for Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance. You won’t find a selection anywhere close to that size in rental stores like Blockbuster. New releases are available as well as all the older games.

Another great advantage is that the games are delivered right to your front door. You don’t have to drive to the store to pick out a game and then drive back to turn it in when you are done. This is really nice for anyone that does not have a store located close by.

It’s also nice not to have to return it by a certain date or face late fees. I can keep it as long as I want, return it when I’m ready, and get the next game in the mail in a day or two.

There’s no reason to spend money on buying games when you can rent them for a small percentage of the cost. But do not look for Netflix game rentals, they just rent DVD’s. There are several nice services that rent video games online.
